Google Still Dominates Search for Retailers

It’s no real surprise to hear that Google dominates search but it is important to take note of the degree of dominance. It can sway from time to time but the folks that it really matters to are the ones spending the money on search advertising. Businesses like yours.
Internet Retailer is a great resource to see just how the big players manage their search marketing. Whether you are a manufacturer or a local business / retailer trying to reach your local customers (or national) it appears that a survey conducted by IR shows that Google is still the king, by far.
With about 89% of respondents say that at least half of their traffic comes from Google (and close to 20% of respondents claiming 90% of their total search traffic came from “The Goog”) it’s apparent that while Microsoft’s bing is making inroads Google is still the way to go.
So traffic is great but does that pay the bills? Actually no. In fact, it can be a hollow moral victory unless there is a conversion attached to the traffic. So does search traffic convert? Here are the findings from the survey.
Only 16% of overall respondents said that their conversion rates went down. When it comes to the manufacturers who do search marketing there were no reports of conversions going down.

So the bottom line is this. Search marketing works. Google is still the king. Are you truly in this game or not? If not, it may be time to get in the game. Like they say in the lottery game, “You gotta be in it to win it!”
